Winter Mixed Sale begins Tuesday; Under Tack Show on Monday

OBS begins its 2013 sale calendar with the annual Winter Mixed Sale. The catalog may be viewed on the OBS website at http://obssales.com. The sortable master index provides access to pedigree updates occurring since the catalog went to the printer.

A total of 641 horses are cataloged for the two-day sale, scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 15th   with hip numbers 1-162 selling in the Consignor Preferred session. The horses (hip numbers 163 – 348) cataloged in the Horses of Racing Age section will sell immediately after the Preferred session. Five horses were supplemented to the Racing Age section, boosting the number of horses cataloged to 186. Past performances are currently available online.

Hip numbers 401 – 693 sell on Wednesday, January 16th in the Open Session. The sale begins each day at 10:30 a.m.

The Racing Age Section includes 29 newly turned two year olds and 157 older horses. The optional Under Tack Show, set for Monday, January 14th at 10:00 a.m., will be streamed live via the OBS website and videos will be posted online as well as viewable at the sales grounds.

Three-year-old Falling Sky should attract a good deal of attention at the Racing Age section’s Under Tack Show. The Lion Heart colt was a winner at first asking, a good fourth in the Inaugural Stakes on opening day at Tampa Bay Downs, and the Gulfstream allowance win on December 15th in his only other start produced impressive speed figures. Lavalette Gold, a 3-year-old daughter of Circular Quay was second in the Joe O’Farrell Stakes at Calder after a winning maiden special weight debut. She came back and scored in a Gulfstream allowance in her only other trip to the post. Stakes winner Bingo, a 5-year-old daughter of Bernstein with earnings of over $200,000 will also attract considerable attention.

The 258 newly turned yearlings in the sale are highlighted by the progeny of a strong roster of proven sires including Flower Alley, Hard Spun, Harlan’s Holiday, Kittens’ Joy, Mineshaft and Tale of the Cat. Florida-based stallions represented by yearlings in the sale include Wildcat Heir, Montbrook, Leroidesanimaux (BRZ), Circular Quay, High Cotton and Put It Back.

Promising stallions with yearlings in the sale include Colonel John, Desert Party, Majestic Warrior, Munnings, Quality Road, Street Boss, Super Saver and Zensational as well as Florida-based Cool Coal Man and Kantharos.

Broodmare buyers will find mares in foal to a good group of proven stallions including Big Brown, Elusive Quality, Proud Citizen, Scat Daddy, Spring At Last and Tiz Wonderful as well as up and comers Archarcharch, Big Drama, First Dude and Pioneerof the Nile.
