Itsmyluckyday wins Gulfstream’s Holy Bull Stakes

Trilogy Stable and Laurie Plesa’s Itsmyluckyday took aim at Eclipse Award winner Shanghai Bobby turning for home in the $400, 000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream, collared him a furlong from home and eased away from there to a two length victory. In handing the 2012 juvenile champion his first defeat, he set a new track record, running the mile and a sixteenth in 1:41.81 It’s the first graded stakes win for the 3-year-old colt by Lawyer Ron, sold by Eisaman Equine, Agent, for $110,000 at the 2012 OBS March Sale. J. Paul Reddam’s I’ll Have Another earned his Eclipse Award on the strength of victories in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1). He’s the third OBS two-year-old graduate voted champion 3-year-old male, joining Skip Away and Silver Charm. Undefeated in 2012 with four graded stakes wins, the son of Flower Alley was sold for $35, 000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, on behalf of Victor Davila at the 2011 OBS April Sale. Sherry Parbhoo’s Trinniberg is the fourth OBS juvenile graduate to win the Eclipse Award as champion sprinter, joining Cherokee Run, Lost in the Fog and Midnight Lute. He won three graded stakes in 2012, ending the year with a victory in the $1,363,500 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). Peachtree Stable’s Plum Pretty, winner of the 2012 $500,000 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) at Oaklawn Park, was a multiple graded stakes winner of $1,656,700. Her 2011 Kentucky Oaks (G1) victory was the second straight by an OBS two-year-old graduate, following Blind Luck’s win in 2010. The daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, sold for $130,000 by Kirkwood Stables, Agent, at the 2010 OBS March Sale, then sold as a broodmare prospect for $4,200,000 this past November. watch her under tack video

Pinnacle Racing Stables and trainer Bill Kaplan’s champion Musical Romance, winner of Calder’s Princess Rooney (G1) in April, retired from racing a multiple stakes winner of $1,682,855. The daughter of Concorde’s Tune won the Eclipse Award as 2011’s champion Female Sprinter. Sold for $22,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2009 OBS April Sale, she brought $1.6-million as a broodmare prospect in November.  watch her under tack video

P and G Stables and Off the Hook Racing’s Turbo Compressor won Monmouth’s $505,000 United Nations Stakes (G1) in July, cruising by a length and three quarters. Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith’s Turbulent Descent won the Ballerina Stakes (G1) at Saratoga in August. The multiple graded stakes winning daughter of Congrats completed her career with four grade one wins including Saratoga’s prestigious Test Stakes (G1) and earnings of $1,211,640. Featherston, Jacobsen & Miller’s Camp Victory won the $250,000 Triple Bend Handicap (G1) at Betfair Hollywood Park and ended 2012 with earnings of $547,986. Lakland Farm’s Unbridled Command ended his 3-year-old year with a big run from well back to win the $250,000 Hollywood Derby (G1). It was his fifth straight win and second graded stakes score, and left him with a 10-6-1-2 record and $469,040 in earnings. Bluegrass Hall LLC’s Hightail won the $500,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint in a stretch duel over fellow OBS graduate Merit Man (April ’12). The son of Mineshaft was purchased by trainer D. Sam Britt and Michael House’s Gabriel Charles found Santa Anita’s downhill turf course to his liking in the $100,000 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint Preview Stakes on Saturday, rallying from just off the pace and then drawing off to a 3-1/2 length victory. Lewis (G2) and Santa Anita Derby (G1) prior to the two classic victories. The son of Flower Alley, purchased by Dennis O’Neill at the 2011 OBS April Sale, was sold for $35,000 by Eisaman Equine, Agent, on behalf of Victor Davila. Distinctiv Passion, Clawback win stakes at Santa Anita, Aqueduct

Edward J.  Brown, Jr., Alan Klein, Alan and Phillip Lebherz’s Distinctiv Passion set rapid fractions on the lead in Monday’s $75, 460 San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita before cruising to his first stakes victory by a length and a half.  That’s three straight wins for the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by With Distinction, sold first by Kaizen Sales, Agent for Plumley Farms at the 2011 OBS January Sale before bringing $65,000 when purchased out of the Kim Harrison consignment at the 2011 OBS August Sale. He’s now 5-3-0-1 and has earned $120,600.

Klaravich Stables Inc. and William H. Lawrence’s Clawback jumped from a December maiden win into the $73,500 Jimmy Winkfield Stakes at Aqueduct on Monday and the 3-year-old Florida-bred colt by Put It Back ran off to a five length victory. A two time OBS graduate, he was sold first by TdM Sales (Tristan and Valery de Meric), Agent at the 2011 January Sale before being sold for $70,000 by Blas Perez, Agent for Blue Top Holdings Stable at the 2012 April Sale. Farnsworth Stables LLC’s Golden Mystery took charge of Gulfstream’s $150, 000 Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint Stakes on Saturday in the upper stretch then pulled away to a 5-1/2 length victory. It’s the second stakes win for the 7-year-old mare by Awesome Again, sold for $27, 000 at the 2008 Adena Springs Sale. Tale of the Cat filly tops Winter Mixed Sale’s Open Session

Hip No. 630, a yearling filly by Tale of the Cat consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, was sold to Bill Fleming for $57,000 to top the Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Winter Mixed Sale. The bay filly is out of stakes winner She’s Sensational, by Point Given.

Hip No. 438, a yearling filly by Summer Bird consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Bill Fleming for $35,000. The dark bay or brown filly, out of Cape North, by Capote, is a half sister to stakes winner Fufty Two.

Nick de Meric, Agent, went to $35,000 for Hip No. 539, a yearling filly by High Cotton consigned by 4 M Ranch, Agent. The dark bay or brown filly is out of King’s Pact, by Slewacide, and is a half sister to stakes winner Thoroughly. 

Hip No. 569, a City Zip filly consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, was purchased by Tomas Vargas for $35,000. The chestnut filly is out of Mist Ya, by Runaway Groom, a daughter of graded stakes placed Victory Party.

Hip No. 425, a yearling colt by Forefathers consigned by 4 M Ranch, Agent, was sold to Anthony Costanzo for $27,000. The dark bay or brown colt, out of Belsay, by Leo Castelli, is a half brother to stakes winner Winamac Jack.

Costanzo also paid $27,000 for another 4 M Ranch consignee, Hip No.543, a yearling colt by Grasshopper. The chestnut colt is out of Kylie’s Dream, by Valid Expectations, a full sister to stakes winner Chit Chat Pam.

For the session, 164 horses sold for a total of $1,153,300, compared with 175 bringing $1,305,100 at the corresponding session last year. The average was $7,032 compared with $7,458 in 2012 while the median price was $4,350 compared with $4,500 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 33.9%; it was 25.5% in 2012.

At Tuesday’s Consignor Preferred session, 93 horses grossed $1,681,900 compared with 71 horses selling for a total of $1,267,000 last year. The average price was $18,085, a gain of 1.3% from $17,845 a year ago, while the median price was $14,000 compared with $15,000 in 2012. The buyback percentage was 35.4%; it was 29% a year ago.

For yesterday’s Horses of Racing Age section, 103 horses brought a total of $1,608,500 compared with 75 horses grossing $1,040,200 in 2012. The average price was $15,617, up 12.6% from $13,869 last year, while the median price was $8,000, up 14.3% compared to $7,000 in 2012. The buyback percentage was 22.6%; it was 24.2% last year.

The sale topper was Hip No. 297, Falling Sky, a 3-year-old colt by Lion Heart consigned by Off the Hook, and sold to Justin Casse, Agent, for $425,000. The Lion Heart colt, out of stakes placed Sea Dragoness, by Sea Hero, was a winner at first asking, a good fourth in the Inaugural Stakes on opening day at Tampa Bay Downs, and scored in a Gulfstream allowance race December 15th in his only other start.

Next on the OBS agenda is the March Selected Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training, set for Tuesday & Wednesday, March 12th  & 13th.  The Under Tack Show is scheduled for Thursday & Friday, March 7th & 8th. The OBS Day of Champions races will be run on Monday, March 11th

Falling Sky tops Winter Mixed Sale’s first session

Hip No. 297, Falling Sky, a 3-year-old colt by Lion Heart consigned by Off the Hook, went to Justin Casse, Agent, for $425,000 to top the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Winter Mixed Sale. The Lion Heart colt, out of stakes placed Sea Dragoness, by Sea Hero, was a winner at first asking, a good fourth in the Inaugural Stakes on opening day at Tampa Bay Downs, and scored in a Gulfstream allowance race December 15th in his only other start.

Hip No. 188, At Large, a colt by Orientate whose three eighths in :32 4/5 was the Under Tack Show’s fastest at the distance, was sold to Alistair Roden Bloodstock for $65,000. Consigned by Thoroughbred Friends & Associates, Agent, the 3-year-old dark bay or brown colt is out of Catch Me Deputy, by Silver Deputy, a daughter of grade one winner Family Enterprize.

Hip No. 294, Backfield Run, a 3-year-old filly by Put It Back, was sold to Eddie Plesa Jr., Agent for $60,000. The chestnut filly, who worked three eighths in :33 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of Run Like Martha, by Jolie’s Halo, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Birdrun.

Hip No. 296, Nicks World, sold to Charles Cella for $60,000, is a 3-year-old colt by Exchange Rate out of Sarah’s World, by Holy Bull. The gray or roan colt, a half brother to graded stakes winner Higher World, was consigned by Craig L. Wheeler, Agent. He worked in :33 2/5 at the Under Tack Show.

 

Hip No. 186, Casual Trick, a 4-year-old stakes placed son of Bernardini consigned by Scanlon Training Center, Agent, was sold to Barry Berkelhammer, Agent, for $55,000. The bay ridgling, who breezed a half mile in :45 3/5 at the Under Tack Show, is out of grade one winner Casual Look, by Red Ransom.

Glencrest Farm went to $80,000 for Hip No. 96, a yearling filly by Quality Road, to top the Consignor Preferred session. Consigned by Select Sales, Agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of Migrate, by Storm Bird, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Warning Zone.

Hip No. 125, a filly by Summer Bird out of stakes winner Season’s Flair, by D’Accord was sold to F M H B for $65,000. The chestnut yearling filly, a half sister to stakes winner Super Fuse, was consigned by Select Sales, Agent.

Get Away Farm went to $65,000 for Hip No. 129, a colt by Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent. The gray or roan yearling colt is out of Silver Lisa, by Holy Bull, a full sister to stakes winner Mekko Hotke.

Hip No. 78, Lacie Slew, a 6-year-old broodmare prospect by Mineshaft consigned by Sue Vacek, Agent, was sold to Live Oak Stud for $62,000. The stakes winning chestnut mare is out of stakes winner Lacie Girl, by Editor’s Note.

The day’s highest priced broodmare was Hip No. 102, Golden Peach, an 8-year-old Touch Gold mare in foal to Scat Daddy, sold to H&E Ranch for $60,000. Consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), Agent, the chestnut mare is out of stakes winner Peaks Mill, by Stalwart, and is a half sister to graded stakes winner Belgravia.

Bingo fastest at Winter Mixed Sale’s Under Tack Show

Hip No, 234, Bingo, a 5-year-old stakes winning mare by Bernstein consigned by Moonshadow Farm, Agent, sped a half mile in :45 1/5 to post the fastest work at the distance at the Under Tack Show for the Horses of Racing Age section of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Winter Mixed Sale. The dark bay or brown mare, out of Isabeau, by Prospector’s Pick, is a half sister to stakes winner Beau Brass. She has earned $208,874 to date.

 

Hip No. 186, Casual Trick, a stakes placed 4-year-old son of Bernardini consigned by Scanlon Training Center, Agent, worked a half mile in :45 3/5. The bay ridgling is out of grade one winner Casual Look, by Red Ransom.

Hip No. 188, At Large, a colt by Orientate consigned by Thoroughbred Friends & Associates, Agent, zipped the day’s fastest three eighths, stopping the timer in :32 4/5. Two horses worked three eighths in :33 2/5. Hip No. 296, Nicks World, is a 3-year-old colt by Exchange Rate consigned by Craig L. Wheeler, Agent. The unraced gray or roan colt is out of Sarah’s World, by Holy Bull, and is a half brother to graded stakes winner Higher World. Hip No. 299, consigned by Hoppel’s Horse & Cattle Co., Agent, is an unraced 3-year-old bay gelding by Rockport Harbor out of Sea Way Lady, by Sea Wall, a half sister to stakes winner Everything.

A total of 641 horses are cataloged for the two-day sale, scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 15th   with hip numbers 1-162 selling in the Consignor Preferred session. The horses (hip numbers 163 – 348) cataloged in the Horses of Racing Age section will sell immediately after the Preferred session. Five horses were supplemented to the Racing Age section, boosting the number of horses cataloged to 186. Past performances are currently available online.

Hip numbers 401 – 693 sell on Wednesday, January 16th in the Open Session. The sale begins each day at 10:30 a.m. 

Jeranimo wins Santa Anita’s San Gabriel Stakes

B.J. Wright’s Jeranimo came from last in a field seven of with a strong late run, blew past the leaders in midstretch and rolled to a 2-3/4 length win in Sunday’s $150, 500 San Gabriel Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita. It’s the sixth graded stakes win for the 7-year-old Florida-bred son of Congaree, who also won the San Gabriel in 2010 and was second in the 2011 renewal.  Sold for $50,000 by On Course Sales, Agent, at the 2007 OBS August Sale, he’s now 32-9-6-5 and has earned $1,197,400.
