OBS August Sale catalog now on the internet

The catalog for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s August Yearling Sale is now available via the OBS website at obssales.com. The print version will be published later this month. The website features a sortable master index for the catalog and daily pedigree updates.

There are 188 yearlings cataloged for the Selected Yearling Sale, scheduled for Tuesday, August 21st beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Tuesday start will allow horsemen time for travel after the weekend stakes races and the afternoon start time will permit more time for pre-sale inspection. Conformation photos of the Selected yearlings should be in the website on or about August 6th.

The two-day Open Sale features 563 yearlings. Hip No.’s 189 – 470 sell on Wednesday, August 22nd and Hip No.’s 471 – 751 will be offered Thursday, August 23rd. Both Open sessions begin at 10:30 a.m.

B.J. Wright’s Jeranimo is the 21st and newest millionaire OBS August Sale graduate after his recent victory in Betfair Hollywood Park’s $300,000 Shoemaker Mile Stakes (G1). The son of Congaree was sold for $50,000 by On Course Sales, Agent, at the 2007 August Sale. He joins the list of OBS August millionaires that also includes Eclipse Award winners Silver Charm, Kodiak Kowboy, Not Surprising, Xtra Heat and Groovy.

The most recent August graduate in the headlines is Lewis Pell, Michael Eigner and Pinnacle Racing Stables Et Al’s Another Romance, winner of the $150,000 Azalea Stakes (G3) at Calder’s Summit of Speed on July 7. The 3-year-old daughter of Saint Anddan, sold by Tara Stables, Inc. Agent, at the 2010 August Sale, was purchased by trainer Bill Kaplan on behalf of her current connections at the 2011 OBS June Sale.

The 2012 OBS August Sale boasts an imposing  lineup of leading stallions. There are four yearlings by Flower Alley, sire of OBS graduate I’ll Have Another, winner of this year’s Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness (G1). The sale also features yearlings by Giant’s Causeway, Empire Maker, War Front, Kitten’s Joy, Candy Ride (ARG), Elusive Quality, Pulpit, Hard Spun, Congrats and Afleet Alex.

The August Sale is traditionally a showcase for up and coming sires, and this year’s sale is no exception, with yearlings by Curlin, Pioneerof the Nile, Colonel John, Majestic Warrior, Tiz Wonderful, Dunkirk, Old Fashioned, Cowboy Cal, Midnight Lute and Kodiak Kowboy.

Leroidesanimaux (BRZ) heads the list of Florida-based stallions with offspring in the sale, along with Wildcat Heir, High Cotton, Put It Back, With Distinction, Montbrook, Pomeroy, Two Step Salsa, Cowtown Cat and In Summation.
