Xunlei, Tarpy’s Goal win stakes at Tampa’s Florida Cup Day

Gold Mark Farm LLC’s Xunlei and Mike Tarp’s Tarpy’s Goal, both trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Leandro Goncalves, scored stakes wins at Florida Cup Day at Tampa Bay Downs.

Xulei, third to Who Is Camille in the $50,000 OBS Sprint Stakes for fillies in her last start, rallied from off the pace, caught the leaders in mid stretch and drew off  to a four length victory in the $75,000 Stonehedge Farm South Sophomore Stakes, with fellow OBS graduate Backstage Magic (April ’11) checking in third. It’s the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Florida-bred daughter of D’wildcat, sold by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, for $90,000 at the 2010 OBS August Sale. She’s now 7-3-1-2 and has earned $126,795 to date.

It was also the first stakes win for Tarpy’s Goal, third in the Futurity (G2) at Belmont last July. The 3-year-old Florida-bred son of High Cotton rallied on the outside down the lane and won the $75,000 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Sophomore Stakes by a length. Now 9-4-0-2 with $129,849 in earnings, he was sold for $8,500 by Quiet Time Farm, Agent at the 2009 OBS Fall Mixed Sale.
