War Front colt tops March Sale finale

Hip No. 342, a colt by War Front consigned by Harris Training Center, Agent, went to Frank Fletcher Racing Operations for $800,000 to top the second and final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2012 March Sale of Selected 2-Year-Olds. The dark bay or brown colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is out of Henna, by Horse Chestnut (SAF), a half sister to grade one stakes winner Pomeroy.

Stonestreet Stables went to $525,000 for Hip No. 323, a colt by Tiz Wonderful consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt, out of stakes placed Foolish Kiss, by Kissin Kris, worked an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show.

Hip No. 350, a colt by Leroidesanimeaux (BRZ) consigned by Eddie Woods, Agent, was sold to Deuce Greathouse, Agent, for $490,000. The chestnut colt, who worked a quarter in :21 1/5, is out of graded stakes winner Humoristic, by Sefapiano.

Hip No. 188, a filly by Street Sense consigned by Ocala Stud went to Repole Stables, Todd Pletcher, Agent, for $475,000. The bay filly, who worked a quarter in :21 3/5 at Friday’s Under Tack session, is out of stakes placed Unlimited Pleasure, by Valid Appeal, and is a half sister to graded stakes winners Jardin and Beacon Shine.

Hip No. 298, a Read the Footnotes colt consigned by Southern Chase Farm (Greg and Karen Dodd) Agent, was sold for $475,000 to Toyomitsu Hirai. The chestnut colt, whose quarter in :20 4/5 was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Dixie Talent, by Dixie Union, a half sister to graded stakes winner No Giveaway.

For the session 84 horses grossed $12,580,000, compared with 118 horses bringing a total of $14,378,000 at last year’s second session. The average price was $149,762, up 23% from $121,847 a year ago, while the median price rose 28% to $110,000 from $86,000 in 2011. The buyback percentage was 27.6%; it was 21.9% last year.

For the entire sale 179 horses sold for a total of $24,819,500 compared with 237 horses grossing $24,711,000 in 2011. The average price was $138,656, up 33% compared with $104,266 a year ago while the median price was a record $105,000, up 50% compared with $70,000 in 2011. The buyback percentage was 25.4%; it was 26.2% last year.

The next sale at OBS is the Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training, set for April 23rd through April 26th with Under Tack Shows scheduled for April 17th through 20th.
