Northern Passion wins Woodbine’s Natalma Stakes

John C. Oxley’s Northern Passion scored by a length and a quarter in Woodbine’s $240, 345 Natalma Stakes (G3) Saturday, with fellow OBS graduate Stephanie’s Kitten(April ’11) checking in third. That’s two wins in three starts for the 2-year-old First Samurai filly, now 3-2-0-1 with earnings of $235,707. She was sold for $220,000 by Halcyon Hammock Farm, Agent, at the 2011 OBS March Sale.

Alex Lieblong’s Conway Two Step tried stakes company for the first time in Calder’s $90, 900 Brave Raj Stakes on Saturday, and the 2-year-old Florida-bred filly by Spanish Steps won by 2-1/2 lengths. Consigned by Cashel Stud, Agent to both the 2011 OBS April and 2009 Fall Mixed Sales, she’s now 5-2-0-1 and has earned $94,260 to date.

Richard Santulli’s Stormy Dixie posted her first stakes victory in Monmouth’s $60,000 Politely Stakes on Sunday, scoring by a neck. The 5-year-old Florida-bred mare by Stormy Atlantic, now 17-4-4-2 with $197,540 in earnings, was sold for $200,000 by Bridlewood Farm at the 2008 OBS March Sale.

Karl Watson, Mike Pegram and Paul Weitman’s Candrea is two for two and a stakes winner of $61,000 after her four length romp in Friday’s $50,000 Phil D. Shepherd Stakes at Fairplex. The 2-year-old Florida-bred Trippi filly was sold for $340,000 by breeder Ocala Stud at the 2011 OBS March Sale.
