Wildcat Heir colt tops Yearling Sale finale

Hip No. 537, a colt by Wildcat Heir consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent, went to Vision Racing and Sales for $85,000 to top the second and final Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2011 August Yearling Sale. The bay colt is out of Tiz What It Waz, by Tiznow, a daughter of stakes placed Ualoaa Lani.

Hip No. 596, a filly by Chapel Royal consigned by Greystone Manor Farm, was sold to Steve Dwoskin for $48,000. The dark bay or brown filly is out of Aggressive Broad, by Broad Brush, and is a half sister to stakes winner Awesomewithbroads.

Vision Racing and Sales went to $43,000 for Hip No. 583, a colt by Tiz Wonderful consigned by Eversole Thoroughbreds, Agent. The dark bay or brown colt is out of Witchful Saint, by Saint Ballado, and is a half brother to stakes placed How Bout Tonight.

Hip No. 732, a Rockport Harbor colt consigned by Imagine…, went to Quarter Pole Enterprises, LLC for $40,000. The gray or roan colt is out of Europium, by Exchange Rate, a daughter of stakes winner Just Bet On Me.

For the session, 195 horses sold for a total of $1,929,400, compared with 229 horses grossing $1,793,850 at the corresponding session last year. The average price was $9,894, up 26.3% from $7,833 in 2010, while the median price of $7,000 rose 40% from $5,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 25.6%, identical to last year’s session.

For the two Open sessions, 408 horses sold for a total of $4,562,100, compared with 475 horses bringing $4,138,350 a year ago. The average price was $11,182, up 28.4% from $8,712 in 2010, while the median price of $8,000 rose 45.4% from $5,500 last year. The buyback percentage was 24.4%; it was 25.1% a year ago.

At Tuesday’s Selected session, 114 horses brought a total of $4,278,000, compared with 135 horses grossing $4,838,500 in the 2010 Selected Yearling Sale. The average price was $37,526, up 4.7% from $35,841 last year, while the median price was $32,500, a gain of 25% compared with $26,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 23.5%; it was 25.4% a year ago.
