Lemon Drop Kid colt tops Yearling Sale’s first Open session

Hip No. 459, a Lemon Drop Kid colt consigned by Beth Bayer, Agent, went to Sallusto/Albina, Agent, for $105,000 to top the first Open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2011 August Yearling Sale. The bay colt is out of stakes winner Secondary School, by Honor Grades.

Hip No. 383, a colt by Political Force consigned by Select Sales, Agent, was sold to Mersad Metanovic & Jeff Bonde, Agent, for $100,000. The gray or roan colt is out of Pine Hill, by Siphon (BRZ), a half sister to graded stakes placed Merger.

Hip No. 180, Gotta Love Gold, a filly by Scat Daddy consigned by Sugar Hill LLC, Agent, went to Sarazen Stable for $68,000. The bay filly is out of Glitz N Gold, by Seeking the Gold, a daughter of stakes winner Timely Broad.

Mark Casse, Agent, went to $55,000 for Hip No. 362, a filly by Birdstone consigned by Sienna Farms LLC. The dark bay or brown filly is out of stakes placed On the Podium, by Bold Executive.

For the session, 212 horses sold for a total of $2,635,200, compared with 246 horses bringing a total of $2,344,500 at last year’s first Open session. The average price was $12,430, up 30.4% from $9,530 a year ago, while the median price rose 38.5% to $9,000 compared with $6,500 in 2010. The buyback percentage was 23.7%; it was 25.5% last year.

The Open Yearling Sale’s final session begins Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
