Mizzen Mast colt tops second session of Spring Sale

Hip No. 679, Take a Picture, a colt by Mizzen Mast consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, was sold to Patrice Miller, EQB Inc., Agent, for $240,000 to top the second session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2011 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Out of Copper Rose, by Unbridled, a half sister to stakes winner Namaqualand, the bay colt worked a quarter in :21 flat at the Under Tack Show.

Hip No. 516, Cruisen Mizzy, a Mizzen Mast filly consigned by Costanzo Sales, went to Narvick International for $210,000. The gray or roan filly, who breezed an eighth in :10 flat at the Under Tack Show, is a half sister to stakes placed Quick Ride out of Baby Let’s Cruise, by Tale of the Cat.

Anthony Goswell, Agent for Harlequin Ranches, went to $190,000 for Hip No. 570, a filly by Johannesburg consigned by Price Thoroughbreds (Andro and Tracey Price), Agent. The dark bay or brown filly, who worked an eighth in :10 1/5, is out of Born Perfect, by Mr. Prospector, and is a half sister to stakes winner Devereux.
Hip No. 457, a colt by Montbrook consigned by Ocala Stud, was sold for $160,000 to Lane’s End Bloodstock. The chestnut colt, out of Aleutian Gold, by Prospectors Gamble and a half brother to stakes winner River Power, worked a quarter in :21 2/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Steve Epley, Jr. went to $160,000 for Hip No. 505, a colt by A.P. Indy consigned by Two Beaches. The chestnut colt, who breezed a quarter in :22 1/5, is out of Aunt Winnie (IRE) by Deputy Minister, a half sister to graded stakes winner Pearl of Love.

Hip No. 359, a High Cotton filly also consigned by Ocala Stud, went to Tommy Huttons Dream Stable & Woodford Racing for $150,000. The chestnut filly, who worked a quarter in :21 2/5, is out of Valid Concorde, by Concorde’s Tune, a full sister to stakes winner Rocky River.

Hip No. 610, My Bashert, a filly by With Distinction whose quarter in :20 3/5 was fastest at the distance at last Wednesday’s Under Tack session, went to Alex & Joanne Lieblong for $140,000. Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of Caught Ree, by Eastern Echo, and is a half sister to graded stakes placed Bashert.

Hip No. 545, a colt by Tale of the Cat consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Dennis O’Neill for $130,000. The dark bay or brown colt, out of Belle Turquoise (FR), by Tel Quel (FR), a half sister to graded stakes winner Tuzla, worked an eighth in :10 1/5.

For the session, 214 horses sold for a total of $7,161,600 compared with 209 horses bringing $6,441,000 last year. The average price was $33,465 up 8.5% compared with $30,818 a year ago,, while the median price was $20,000, identical to last year. The buyback percentage was 23.3%; it was 16.7% a year ago. Thirty-eight horses sold for $50,000 or more compared with 29 last year.
