Reprized Halo, Delightful Mary win OBS Championship Stakes

Roger Urbina’s Reprized Halo took command of the 22nd running of the $100, 000 OBS Championship Stakes for 3-year-old colts and geldings early and led all the way, holding off a late charge by WinStar Farm LLC’s Extended Family to win by three quarters of a length. John C. Oxley’s Strike Oil was another length back in third. The time for the mile and a sixteenth was 1:47 2/5. Ridden by Jose Alvarez and trained by Manuel Azpurua, the Florida-bred son of Halo’s Image was bred by Debra and Bill Backlinie and sold for $23,000 by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), Agent at the 2010 OBS April Sale. He’s now 13-3-1-1 and has earned $318,579. It was the third start of the year for Reprized Halo, whose juvenile campaign was highlighted by his front-running victory over fellow OBS graduate Gourmet Dinner in the In Reality Division of the Florida Stallion Stakes.

John C. Oxley’s Delightful Mary took her first step on the road to the Kentucky Oaks in the 22nd running of the $100,000 OBS Championship Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, edging clear of Armand A. Delaperriere’s stubborn Be My Candy in the final furlong to win by three-quarters of length. A and V Investments’ Snow Trial was another length and quarter back in third after the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45 4/5. Trained by Mark Casse, and ridden by Shaun Bridgmohan, the Florida-bred daughter of Limehouse was bred by Hobeau Farm Ltd. Consigned to the 2010 April Sale by Craig L. Wheeler, Agent for the Hobeau Farm Dispersal, she was purchased by trainer Casse on behalf of Oxley for a sale topping $500,000. Third in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) at Churchill Downs, the win gives her 5-3-1-1 record and earnings of $370,377.

In the afternoon’s first race, the 18th running of the $50,000 OBS Sprint for 3-year-old fillies, Curtis C. Green’s One Star broke sharply under Elvis Trujillo then sat just behind dueling pacesetters M and H Stables’ Wild Penny and Luis Olivares’ Take Me to Zuber, then wore both down in a long drive to win going away by a length and three quarters. Take Me to Zuber finished second by a head over Wild Penny after six furlongs in 1:11. The daughter of Include, trained by Jim DiVito, was consigned to the 2010 OBS April Sale by Wavertree Stables (Ciaran Dunne), Agent. She’s now 9-2-2-2 and has earned $64,474.

Centaur Farms’ Megalith rolled down the center of the track in the 18th renewal of the $50,000 OBS Sprint for 3-year-old colts and geldings, blew past the early leaders in the final furlong and won by a length and a half in a track record 1:09 3/5 for the six furlongs. The Posse’s Legacy Wildcat settled for second, a length in front of GZS Stable LLC’s early leader Dual Exhauzt. Trained by Ron Spatz and ridden by Rajiv Maragh, the son of Trippi was bred in Florida by his owner. He was consigned by Ocala Stud to the 2010 OBS April Sale. The win gives him an 8-3-1-1 record and $90,535 in earnings.
